I was doing some extensive desk work yesterday and realized after hours that I was becoming less and less effective. I realized had to do something to get back my effectiveness - there was work that really had to get done. So I took a break, walked around the block and cleared my head of my mental clutter. Massage does the samething - it's a break from the routine and so much more! It's a time for yourself, it relaxes your sore, stiff muscles and connective tissues, stimulates your circulatory, endocrine, immune and nervous systems and it feels fantastic. So take a load off and do your body good. You and your work will be better off for it!

Emotional Intelligence
We're all familiar with Intellectual Intelligence or intellectual quotient, "IQ", which is a measure of knowledge. Emotional Intelligence or "EQ" is arguably more important. It is how we as individuals master our emotions and relate to others. It is the essence of our emotional response. How does this relate to massage therapy? As massage therapy professionals special trust is given to us by our customers for the touch and healing we provide. A well developed EQ allows us to perform objectively yet in an empathetic and nurturing fashion. A well developed EQ helps us not internalize potential issues we might encounter. Also, nuturing a healthy EQ allows us to be aware of our own triggers and to provide an optimal, professional emotional response that our customers need.

Experience YOUR Harmony!

The bamboo is a beautiful creation for us to emulate. It is beautiful, simple, strong and a metaphor for harmony. Harmony comes in part from knowing yourself. Being confident. Being okay with yourself allows the world to hurl its issues at you, yet you stand strong letting them fly by like a bamboo yields to but does not take possession of the wind.

Words with Meaning
Like the loving touch of another person, a word can conjure up feelings from within us. I've gathered these words for you. They're meant to bring contentment. They are synonymous with massage...
Relax, Health, Meditate, Balance, Love, Sleep, Calm, Release, Loosen, Breathe, Touch, Live, Quiet, Stillness, Tranquility, Silence, Serenity, Nurture, Repose. But of all the words I've conjectured so far those that mean the most are Rest, Harmony & Peace.
Let me know what other words you can add to this list!

Meditation
Just like your body must have sleep your soul needs time to veg. Try meditation. Meditation is simply quiet time alone, and without distractions. Find a quiet place, get comfortable, close your eyes and try to remove all thought from your mind - easier said than done! But, with practice you'll be able to lengthen this self nurturing down-time into longer and longer periods. You'll feel better and be a better person for it.

Adrenaline
Once upon a time we humans existed and survived a brutal world by being able to react to stressful situations, by thinking and responding more decisively than the average bear (literally!) Outrunning a herd of Wooly Mammoths was a snap using our fight or flight syndrome. However, in today's fast-paced world we have come to crave and may even become addicted to the rush brought on by adrenaline and other stimulants. Stimulation is needed to make us more efficient but too much will eventually bring about less productivity and wear us out. Everything in moderation, I was told. Proper diet, exercise, and rest all make health, wealthy and wise. Massage has a place in this balance. The benefits of massage lend themselves well to countering the negative effects of stress. Try it - you'll like it!

Why Massage?
To tell you the reasons "why" massage is good for you is almost counterproductive. Yet it bears consideration. The underlying reasons why we like massage so much is that it shown to improve your circulatory system, has a positive effect on the nervous system, increases circulation of the lymphatic system, enhances the respiratory system, relieves and relaxes muscles and connective tissues, (let alone has a very positive effect on sore muscles,) and can stimulate the release of endorphins that give you a euphoric feeling. But, the bottom line is massage feels very good and is good for you. So, don't think too much, just enjoy!

Warm Stone
The massage therapy, Warm Stone, is a therapeutic practice involving smooth basalt stones bathed in warm water, oiled and applied in long gentle strokes to the soft tissues of the body. They are in effect hot pads intended to bring relief to tired and sore muscles. The calming effect that Warm Stone evokes is therapeutic in and of itself. Once received people often want to get it again. It's kind of like wanting to take a mid-afternoon nap - once you've tried it, you're going to want to do it again!

What's In a Name?
The name Warm Stone Massage Therapy was born out of my passion to provide relaxation and healing touch to you and others. A good friend and business acquaintance of mine recommended I rename my practice using words that have meaning for you, my clients. The words Warm Stone eventually evolved out of that conversation and are important for their metaphoric and symbolic meanings. WARM for its nurturing and healing quality, and STONE connotating strength. In addition the spherical shape of the STONES that I use in this practice symbolize an ongoing or lasting quality. My hope is that the full meaning of these words translate into my intent for you - lasting effect from therapeutic touch.
